Today we held a class scavenger hunt to help us to get to know our classmates. After this, we did a book tasting (preview) of the books in the class library. We will be setting up our class files next class period.
August 22 and 23:
Today we created a prompt that will be used at some point in the year. After this, we finished the book tasting and What My Name Means poems. We started reading and annotating the article "Reading Literature Makes Us Smarter and Nicer." We also set up our class files.
August 26 and 27:

After this, we did an activity with parallel structure. We completed the activity at the end of this powerpoint. We then did a human sorts game where everyone was given a sentence and stood on the side of the room that fit their sentence (parallel or not parallel).
We then started reading and annotating the article "Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance." If you were absent, you may pick up a copy of this when you return.

Today we had a vocabulary lesson on several words from The Crucible. If you were absent, you will need to get these when you return. After this, we watched the video clip on this site about sketch notes. After viewing the clip, we read Act 3, Scene 1 and took sketch notes on the scene. If you were absent, you will need to read Act 3, Scene 1 and take sketch notes in the orange section of your notebook.

Today we finished reading Act 3, Scene 3. After this, we had a lesson on Rhetoric and Logical Fallacies. If you were absent, you will need to complete this handout using this powerpoint. Make sure you have an example of each fallacy from the play.

Each class finished reading the play and started working on the Proctor eulogy or elegy. The counselors visited on the 5th and 6th. Registration starts on March 12th at 2:45!

Today we held our Crucible escape room. The grade for this activity will be on 4th term. If you were absent, you will need to see Ms. Hunter for instructions on how to make it up.
